Actually, that was Republicans who initially suggested that whooper. They have been pushing for that for over 30 years, even though only those with massive amounts of money are living any longer.

You are missing it, Dude. This is all strategy. But, if that happened, it would be phased in for people under age 55.

That was actually a Republican idea that he compromised on.
So…I guess we would be way better off just eliminating medicare altogether like the Republicans want now. Yeah…no one getting “thrown under the bus” there.
And yes, replacing it with a “voucher” system IS eliminating medicare. You just wait and see how a “voucher” system works out for you when you’re elderly and you take your voucher and go try to buy insurance from a FOR PROFIT company whose job is not to take care of you…it’s to MAKE MONEY off of you. You just wait and see how many of them refuse to cover you because of whatever “pre-existing condition” they’ve determined you have, (what ISN’T a “pre-existing condition” with the elderly?) or refuse to pay for necessary medication or treatments that you need. Yeah…you go ahead and keep supporting the GOP on this one, and THEN you come back when you’re old and try to tell us that it was OBAMA who wanted to “throw you under the bus.” The insurance companies are RENOWNED for screwing over the elderly. That’s why we needed a medicare system in the first place!
Please. Right-wingers make no sense at all.

What I dont get is why the age of 66 was not mentioned, probably because those who are reaching 66 next year are already on Medicare at age 65. I think the SS retirement and Medicare age should be identical.
